Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

New Evercade retro-modern collection features Life on Mars and Metal Dragon

Evercade rounds out another busy year with a dual-cart collection of retro-modern titles. The recent Mega Drive releases, Life on Mars and Metal Dragon from Kai Software (aka Oscar Kenneth Albero) will hit stores in December.

Evercade console cart no. 42 provides two games with superbly crafted worlds, bags of atmosphere, plenty of weapons, and meaty audio effects, with a total focus on the single-player experience. Packing in action, shooting and exploring there's a hint of Turrican/Metroid about 2023's Life on Mars, and Ikari Warriors about 2022's Metal Dragon, with gratuitous movie quotes littering the later, adding a suitable level of cheese.

Again, it is great to see Evercade bring us something from the independent developer scene, with Full Void, released around the same time of the year, an absolute delight. Hopefully they can ramp up the indie carts in 2025.

Both titles are available as physical releases for those who still have their Mega Drive/Genesis consoles, but the Evercade is a more cost-efficient way to grab them legitimately. Hopefully Kai Software's upcoming title, "The Secret of the Four Winds" will make it over to Evercade too.
