PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smaller/indie o...

Neo Harbor Rescue Squad on the way to PlayStations in peril

Neo Harbor Rescue Squad is a very different hued game from the mind of Benjamin Rivers, the man who gave us the chilling dread of Home and the bleak world of Alone With You. Instead we have a cheery anime-tinged Hong-Kong inspired world of medical drama played for fun.

Co-developed by Laundry Bear games and inspired by Bancy's co-founder Nancy Yeung from the vibe of her hometown, Hong Kong, you're a rookie paramedic charged with keeping your finger on the pulse across endless medical challenges.

With a broad mix of challenging decision-making and medical mini games, players must triage the wounded from various city disasters and emergencies, treat patients and keep the seriously injured stable while managing all conditions from nosebleeds to heart attacks, juggling multiple patients at once. All this while winning the respect of your team and the rival fire department (will there be love? I'm guessing so.)

Neo Harbor Rescue Squad

The weird thing is, despite its Wii and DS aesthetic,  Neo Harbor Rescue Squad is only listed for PlayStation 4/5 and Steam, with Switch a glaring omission that I hope will be sorted out over time. One reason it might not is that, as R|ivers tweets, "this is our first ground-up #PS5 game. You'll feel every bone you accidentally break (oops) with the DualSense controller, and watch your patients cringe in full 4K!"

All we have is this year as a release date, so keep your ears open for the sound of sirens and watch out for trails of bloody bandages wrapped around your pristine white PS5. Hopefully it will look fantastic on a PlayStation Portal or Steam Deck.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
