PSP2, Switch 2 and Xbox... a brighter portable future? (Updated)

Evercade sells a million carts, Alpha reveal tomorrow

Some 55 carts into the Evercade era and parent company Blaze has announced they have sold over 1 million of the lovely little plastic boxes, replete with manuals and carts packed with gaming joy, over four years of steadily rising publishing activity.

First, happy fourth birthday to the Evercade, launched on the 22nd May 2022. Those early Atari, Namco, Interplay and Piko carts really made for an amazing start

Second, congrats to Blaze for reading the market right and delivering legit, curated, retro done well. And thanks to everyone in the Evercade family, including us gamers for supporting them, the developers (especially those getting their physical break like OutoftheBit with Full Void), publishers and creatives who have helped this juggernaut get rolling.

Third, some simple maths suggests an average of 18,000 sales each, which is pretty solid. And given the collectability of the Evercade platform, hints at great loyalty across the console, arcade and computer collections. With multiple hardware variants coming and going, I'm guessing many Evercade owners have more than one model.

Which brings us to the upcoming Evercade Alpha system, hinted at in the latest controller artwork, and getting an unveiling on Thursday, will it be a higher-value portable or big-screen system (or both)? Will it enable Dreamcast and PS2-level gaming? Come back tomorrow to find out.

But, in the brief gap, I applaud the Evercade community and strongly recommend any of the models to gamers looking to do retro and retro-modern gaming the best way!
