July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Corpse Party lies on the Switch slab with Darkness Distortion

I haven't heard the name Corpse Party in many years, or thought much about the PSP and Vita titles, pretty sure I played them a bit, but unlike the Yomawari or Mark Skelter games, guess they never stuck. Anyway, the series is backing hitting the Switch and PS4 later this year with an all-new story and 18-rated horror.

Corpse Party II Darkness Distortion from Mages and Team GrisGris is set in a hospital where people are disappearing after messing with an urban legend ritual, Ayame's Mercy. From the brief glimpses in the teaser trailer uses a similar visual cute style to the previous encounters, with lashings of blood and screaming terror.

Darkness Distortion follows three high school friends (check out the character pages for the utterly generic cast) as they explore the Amare Est Vivere Hospital, testing a local urban legend as the streamer Nemu seeks to boost her subscriber count.

Unfortunately for them the legend of Ayame's Mercy is true, and they trigger a curse that tips them into a dark realm. There they must avoid the vengeful spirit of Ayame Kirishima, and the other horrors from the hospital's dark past as they look to end the curse.

Corpse Party II lands in autumn, with physicals and limited editions for PS4 and Switch, with a bunch of goodies including a neat USB candle! Maybe this one will have a little more bite than the previous encounters?
