Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. Hands on with the PlayStation Portal preorder trailer

Sony's articles about the PlayStation Portal come with so many disclaimers about what it doesn't do, it really is just easier to watch the video. Young urbanites with immaculate hands take on the biggest PlayStation 5 games, including the upcoming Spider Man 2, across a variety of not-in-the-living room scenarios.

Update: And with Sony now cranking its seasonal marketing campaign into overdrive, note the total lack of Portal mentions in stories about Spider Man 2, which is where Sony usually falls down, a quick mention is all it takes to generate some interest, but PlayStation marketing fears diluting the PS5 message.

PlayStation Portal

Sony's technical gurus have likely got a very solid remote play experience going on between the Portal and PS5, but still don't want to show it straying beyond the home. Even though people who've seen it say it does work fine (depending on the connection).

The key facts are pre-orders from Sony go live at the end of this month, with other retailers taking orders in October ahead of the official launch for the US, UK, big bits of Europe and Australia, along with the new Pulse earbuds and headphones

Seeing people actually holding it, the Portal doesn't look particularly uncomfortable, but I wonder how it copes with the torque players would put through it in stressful gaming situations? Hopefully Sony's ergonomic experts have put enough solid metal in the casing to prevent any warping!
