Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Taito Milestones 2 trailer tempts with punishing pixels

The late 80s were Taito's golden era and you can relive or experience it for the first time with Taito Milestones 2 on Switch. Getting a physical and LE release from ININ, the new collection features the legendary cute-but-tough New Zealand Story and super-wide shooter Darius II.

Among some of the curios are fire-fighting platformer Ben Bero Beh and super-sized sprites in beat 'em up DinoRex. All pixel-perfect, with punishing arcade mechanics and plenty of one-more-go appeal.

From the earlier games, Legend of Kage looks a lot worse than I remember, but early 90's shooters MetalBlack and Gun Frontier look to ramp up the action, and show the skills of Taito's artists and coders as pixel power soared.

The collections are up for pre-order now, and the physical version will arrive around August/September at $40/£35. Or you can download it from the eShop, with pre-orders live for the same price.

ININ has taken charge of much of Taito's output with the recent Puzzle Bobble EveryBubble release. Hopefully we get to see Chase HQ 2 or 3, RayForce and Operation Wolf in a future Milestones pack!
