Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

PlayStation Showcase reveals... Project Q

PlayStation Showcase sparked so much gossip in the run up to the event, I muted the term on Twitter and kept a low profile to avoid all the silliness. So much better to enjoy things fresh, as the dice rolled and the trailers played.

Update: Some more organised post-event thoughts on Project Q

Cutting edge heist MP title Haven kicked things off before a series of "haven't we seen this before" projects in the vein of techno robo-bikers-racing-down-the-side-of-a-building, and not-more-feudal-Japan type games.

Where's the Japanese batshittery of Danganronpa-style lunacy? Things were rescued a bit with pastel-tinged indies Sword of the Sea, Cat Quest and Neva, the later two coming in 2024. Not the first time Sony relies on indies to help it out.

PlayStation Showcase

We've definitely seen HellDivers from Arrowhead before, one of the Vita's better co-op shooters (with proper cross play on PS3/PS4). The series makes a full-bore welcome return with a new PS5 take on Starship Troopers, travelling the galaxy and squashing endless waves of bugs.

Helldivers

Teardown (Minecraft meets stunt driver?) looked rather more fun and creative, and the big news is Metal Gear is back! With a remaster of Snake Eater as part of a new master collection, including the first PlayStation game, answering the prayers of a million or two fans.

More sequelitis/remakes include Bungie's Marathon, Street Fighter, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dragon's Dogma 2 and Alan Wake 2. There was certainly something for everyone among the mass of titles, but hardware, come on Sony, get with the hardware!

Then, just before the final game there was this little reveal from Jim "innovation is our passion" Ryan, Project Q is real - a dedicated streaming device from the PS5. (Finally!)

It lives! And it looks gorgeous with the leaked details pretty much spot on, an 8-inch screen, WiFi connectivity and all the features of the DualSense controller. It is slated to release later this year, with more details coming in the months.

Project Q can stream PS5 games, and will presumably have a few other tricks up its sleeve, but don't expect any native titles. At least it helps this blog legitimately cover the world of PlayStation for a few more years!

And another treat are the PlayStation earbuds, coming for those who don't like the big cans, with lossless, no-delay audio, a neat little combo.

A couple of questions...
