Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  Update: the Vectrex Kickstarter is live and blew past its first funding goal in ab out 15 minutes, and approaching £450K and 2,500 backers in its first day.   His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectre...

Atari dropped 50th anniversary retro handheld at CES

Having established that I'm a big fan of the Atari 50 collection, aka retro-nostalgia done right, here's Atari back to its tat-flinging ways with a new portable on show at the just-wrapped CES show in Las Vegas. The nostalgia-crippled brand has partnered with MyArcadeRetro to bring this stylish-looking handheld, a mini console and other goodies.

Have to say, I like the look of this unit, but there's the perennial question of where are the Activision titles? Missing according to reports. And just how few titles do they think they can get away with? Up to 100 VCS/2600 games apparently (a number now confirmed by Atari), which isn't too shoddy (thanks, Japan's 4Gamer, I borrowed one of their photos of the system menu).

The unit comes with a 2.75-inch LCD screen, two buttons and a chunky D-pad. Gotta love the colour scheme, but fear the Atari branding will boost the price above normal - 4Gamer mentions around $60.

But, seriously Atari, cut a deal with Activision and cross the streams! Nothing on the Atari or MyArcadeRetro site yet to confirm the news, or pricing, and I do worry about a brand that hasn't updated its news page since 2020!
