Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Gravity Rush getting the movie treatment

Sony is looking into its archives for a bunch of potential blockbuster movies based on its many properties. Already on the screen is the fun-but-harmless Uncharted, in the works are Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us, with a new slate announced including Gravity Rush, Days Gone and Gran Turismo.

Movie business site Deadline has the news and an impressive set of female talent lined up to create Gravity Rush, with Anna Mastro directing Emily Jerome’s script. They even correctly identified the Vita as the original source of the game, wonder how many sites will miss that one?

Who will play Kat? Hopefully a new face rather than trying to drag in someone like Alicia Vikander "Coz she did a game movie once." Elsewhere, CNET called it an "obscure PlayStation Vita game..." which perhaps shows why they should stick to getting over-excited about iOS updates. I dread to think what they wrote about Kat's gravity defying antics.

Hopefully, Sony isn't planning yet another niche doomed-to-fail streaming service to try and compete with Netflix, Disney+ et al. And if it does well in cinemas or streams, a PS5 sequel or remaster would be a lovely thing. Do remember the fanzine that's available and that the original is still on Vita's PSN for £12.99, with the PS4 sequel currently bundled in PS+ or on-sale for £13.99 on PSN.

Movies being movies, who knows if or when Gravity Rush will ever get released, and what facets of the game will make it a big screen. Still, good to see Kat's legacy live on, she also appeared in Everybody's Golf and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Horrifying discovery time, I never put up a review of the game, even though I finished Gravity Rush - something I'll have to rectify shortly.
