Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Ridge Racer 2 for PSP will live on in the new PS+ service

Ridge Racer(s) 2 is likely the finest version of the series, packing in plenty of the original tracks alongside the awesome story mode that was the backbone of the original PSP Ridge Racer title. Therefore, given Namco abandoned the series (not even a 4K remake?), it makes sense for it to be a posterchild for the new PlayStation Plus retro service. Word is the game is upscaled to HD, and might have tropies, but we'll see, as Sony's ability to screw up retro is legendary.

Or perhaps not, the game is still not live in western PS+ offerings (as of the end of July), although most of the other titles mentioned have turned up, so perhaps Sony is playing a slow game here.

Tekken 2 on PSone has also made an appearance, alongside a couple of Worms titles (for which we have Evercade, but thanks) and Mr. Driller. No doubt the list will grow, but as PSP and Vita owners have been playing these games for years, I guess it shows big-screen-only PlayStation fans what they were missing.
