Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Yosp shows off his God of War on his Steam Deck, aka Vita 2

PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida has been waving his Steam Deck around pretty regularly since the early models were gifted to tech luminaries. With the public launch set for February, it is likely to be the most powerful portable ever. Every time Yosp waves his about, people bring up the PSP, Vita and Sony's lack of a successor, and generates a bunch of press articles

The latest shot, showing it playing the PC version of God of War suggests that Yosp (now working for Sony on independent developer relations) accepts the Steam Deck is as close as we get to any Vita 2, with little hope of a PS5 remote player which would resolve Sony's total lack of a portable solution.

For us Vita owners, its a look into what could have been, something ahead of the Switch in terms of power would have been fine for PS3/PS2/PS1/PSP and Vita gaming on the go, with streaming of PS4 and 5 titles. And I'm sure Sony would have done a better job on the buttons and triggers than appears on the early Steam Deck.
