Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Horizon Turbo Chase to sneak under the Vita's chequered flag?

Horizon Turbo Chase is a retro-modern racer from Aquiris that I've loved on my Switch and PS4. The Brazilian developer and Eastasiasoft were talking about a Vita version a couple of years ago, and as part of the Vita's extended farewell physical release tour, it'd be a great fit.

That's if the ancient Vita processors could keep up the fast 60fps pace with all those mid-poly cars and gorgeous backgrounds sliding around. That would take some effort, but it looks like someone has pulled some dev wizardry out of the sorting hat to get it going.

So, guess our dreams have been answered as a trophy listing has just popped up and this is unlikely to be one of those phantom appearances. Naturally, nothing officially until the press release, but hopefully it will feature the online multiplayer and weekly challenges to keep the longevity going.

Here's the PS4 trailer to whet appetites until the official news drops, with a sterling 16-bit era soundtrack by composer Barry Leitch. Until then there's always the PSP OutRun and many others to keep us going.

If its a physical-only release, expect this one to sell out fast. I hope it gets a PSN release too, but not sure what the store status will be whenever this arrives.
