PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smal...

Theme Park Simulator spins up on Switch

Hmmm, Theme Park, the 25-year old Bullfrog original, a true classic and all-round piece of gaming genius is still yet to bettered when it comes to slinging together engaging game mechanics. So, I'm less than excited by Badland's nuts-and-bolts approach in its PR blurb for TPS.

"Control the most iconic amusement park rides, including the Ferris wheel, bumper cars and two roller coasters. Use the touch screen to calibrate the speed and direction of the rides and test your customers' endurance. Plus, each attraction offers a choice of different cameras - you can even experience them through the eyes of the passengers. Enjoy each of the eleven available rides in third or first person and manage its performance in real time: capacity, speed, direction, movement patterns, smoke and light effects... and watch the reaction of the visitors!"

None of that actually sounds like great fun to me... that sounds like pushing buttons to see what some AI spod does. The game is out now on the eShop if you want to give running a Ferris Wheel, Twister ride, Viking ship and other rides a spin, let us know if it is actually enjoyable at all. A Theme Park remake on the DS is available if you'd rather try the original or Rollercoaster Tycoon is still going on most formats with an Adventures version on the Switch.
