July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Switch sales smash up the Japanese chart

The unstoppable Switch continues to churn out money for Nintendo in Japan, as the holiday season sales start in earnest. Switch hardware hit a year's best and best week since launch, with a scorching 281,000 units. That's a monstrous 75% of the whole Japanese hardware market, helped by the arrival of Super Smash Bros.

SSB sold 1.2 million copies, with 8 of the top 10 games in the Media Create chart for the hybrid, showing just how much Japan loves their Switches.  Pokemon Let's go crossed the million mark in second place, with old stagers like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 selling well as new Switch buyers stock up.

Overall, the Switch has taken less than two years to outsell the Vita in Japan, an impressive achievement and a sad indictment on how poorly Sony handled its second and last handheld.
