July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Bitmap Bureau's XenoCrisis getting physical release

One of the joys of growing up in the physical-only 16-bit world was spending your cash on a game and actually looking at the box art. Studying the main image, getting a feel for the atmosphere of a game that was mostly tiny pixels. Can't say I've ever done that in the last few generations, beyond the odd batshit crazy title like Borderlands 2.

Therefore, it is only fitting that Bitmap Bureau's Mega Drive game XenoCrisis gets a physical release from Strictly Limited on the Switch. Even though this isn't final artwork, it puts across a great level of detail. We have hints of alien fiends their tentacles and claws flailing, bullets flying everywhere, a hero in full berserk mode, and a strong female character, her armour battle-scared, kicking in doors.

The successful Kickstarter campaign will update soon with new tiers for the physical release, a worthy investment I reckon. Or, you can pick it from Strictly Limited when a presumably modest production run will be announced soon.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
