July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. First week of Media Create sales data for 2018 shows Switch going up, up up

Japan kicks off the new year with fans still snapping up Switch units as if their lives depended on it. It sold just over 146,000 units according to Media Create data, the second set of figures out this week as they catch up with business. The first set rounded out the 2017 data.

For software, the top three juggle around with Splatoon sneaking the top spot by a few thousand sales.

Things usually quieten down over January, but Switch excitement seems to be overriding that. What will be key is how Switch sales, and Nintendo's launch roster for the year, fare when we pass the original launch date.
