July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Due to lack of sales (only 7 titles have passed the 100,000 mark in the last year) and economics, it still doesn't matter to PlayStation owners, collectors are stores, who can now only sell digital codes in a box.  June 2026 Update : The latest snippet of gossip for Sony's next-gen systems is a modular/external drive that will connect to both devices. Atelier Lydie & Souer Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting goes on show in Japan this winter

The Atelier series will never die, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. I guess it will continue to run on the Vita as long as Gust can drag a few frames per second out of that aging engine. The new title, Atelier Lydie & Souer: Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting offers a dual-character adventure with the usual Atelier potionery (not an actual word) and adventuring.

UPDATE: Teaser site live, and now I know how to spell their names properly (edit, edit, edit) with some special editions and pre-order DLC costumes on show.

It sees a pair of sisters of the Marlen family, able to enter a mysterious world inside a painting. Having said that, there's just this one piece of art for now. Hopefully, a trailer will arrive soon, there's talk of improved 3D models, but I guess that won't apply to the Vita version. I'd like to think western sales of the series are strong enough to merit a version coming our way in 2018.

The game is also coming to Switch and PS4, so its likely only a matter of time before the Vita version drops off the bottom of the list if sales are deemed insufficient by the Gust bean counters.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
