PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Everyone else is still barely cutting the skin of the PS5's power, and most western smal...

Escape Hatch may bring Starlight Tactics to the Vita

In a technology pending move, Escape Hatch has announced the follow-up title to its space combat game Starlight Inception, with a Vita version possible with a major caveat. The release states that a Vita version will come, only if Unity 4.6 or 5.0 engine support comes to the Vita.

The game (UPDATE: pics on its Facebook page), is slated for a 2015 release, and offers an Admiral's eye view of the Starlight universe (remember, the team is still supporting and updating the Vita game), with tactical and strategic decisions the order of the day. Former LucasArts alum, who worked on Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, Garry Gaber says:
"Tactics promises to be something new and original - a game set in the Starlight universe that takes place at the capital ship level - players will be able to control both United Star Force and Non-Aligned Nations Destroyers, Cruisers and Carriers in two full campaigns, with a skirmish mode as well for players who just want to quickly jump into the action."
In case the Vita version never makes it, the game is planned for iOS, PC, PS4 and other formats. I guess the engine support is down to the Unity team, who have a lot on their plate than to support a niche format like the Vita (its not like thousands of games rushed over when Unity support was first announced), but you never know!

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
