Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. The Swapper landing on Vita, 6 August

I'm pretty keen on this spacey-explorer game from Facepalm, which has a slight vibe of the excellent iOS hit,Waking Mars. The Swapper will be cross-buy on PS4, PS3 and Vita for £11.99, with just one month to wait, so you can enjoy the sparkling visuals on the small and big screen.

It features an isolated and atmospheric sci-fi world where players wield an experimental device which allows them to create clones of themselves, swapping their entire consciousness into new bodies to overcome the challenges created by the environment. Players must:

  • Think: Fiendishly designed puzzles with equally clever solutions that are never more than a few steps away.
  • Wonder: The art in The Swapper is constructed using clay models and everyday materials, which combine to create truly unique visuals in a detailed and atmospheric environment.
  • Discover: A powerful and thoughtful story, told through the game's environment with narrative design.
