Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Media Create sales see Vita beat 3DS in Japan

Despite the arrival of a new Super Robot Wars game, racing into to the top positions on PS3 and Vita, its been another slowish week for Vita hardware. Even so, the Vita is now ahead of the 3DS in Japan, which Famitsu's sales reported a few weeks back. Not much of a trend, and only by 1,800 or so, but its a start.

However one big 3DS release can send hardware sales soaring, something the Vita can't manage. Here's last week's numbers for comparison. Between 125,000 and 180,000 seems to be the upper limit for Vita games, excluding digital sales. With only Toukiden, Hatsune Miku 1 and FFX HD notably above that, from memory.

TTG makes a good impression at No. 6 for an all-new game, I'd be quite keen to see the latest Arc System mystery game come west. The Vita's task now is to keep selling over the next dead month or so until the summer release arrive, then the spikes need to be a lot bigger than they were in 2012/13.
