Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Freedom Wars in-game clip sees Sony pushing 2014's line-up

With the big beasts for the Vita now out on Japanese shelves, Sony is trying to divert gamers' eyes forward to the future with next year's offerings. Leading the way is Freedom Wars, which has input from the God Eater 2 team Shift and Sonic 4 crew Dimps, to widen the talent pool. This first in-game action shows the usual team of players running around the usual demonic fiend, bringing it down in a fiery and disjointed end, with grappling hooks to get higher around the scene.

How does that fit in with the Panopticon concept of massive prison sentences for all citizens? Guess we'll find out soon enough, but roughly every beastie you take down or citizen you rescue (guess that's the carrying to the pod scene) helps reduce your sentence, hopefully there are other ways to do that too. Clearly there's a lot of work to do but this is the kind of game that the Japanese are lapping up and if it can do anything a little different, that could see it sell easily.
