July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Next Game Heaven event coming soon

Talking on Famitsu, SCE CEO Hiroshi Kawano during a Q&A session told the forum that the next Game Heaven event won't be too long from now, and promised some big names for it, none of which he can reveal.

Read into that what you will. I think July is now unlikely, and with TGS in September that leaves August as a decent time to set out the agenda for the big show. It might happen to coincide with Gamescom, so the Japanese don't feel left out if Sony decides to unveil some new stuff over here. What those games are is the tantalising question, any guesses except the bleedin' obvious?
