Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

Minecraft for Xperia Play Rolls Out

Typically, I've just given back the Xperia Play unit I borrowed, so won't be able to enjoy the fun. Apparently, this version is similar to the early PC edition and is rated as an alpha, and is selling for $7. Basically, players can create their own islands using the resources to hand, and addictive is hardly the word... expect frequent updates to bring it up to the specification of other versions.

Here's the press release, with a £4.26 price tag for UK gamers:

Indie developer Mojang has set the industry alight with Minecraft, as the most downloaded paid-for independent PC game of all time. Winning critics and fans over with its clever and addictive gameplay, the title boasts more than 11 million registered users and more than 50,000 new players joining every day. Minecraft is one of the fastest growing game franchises in history, boasting such popularity while still only offered in Beta with constant updates and feature additions.
The Pocket Edition of Minecraft will also be updated regularly with new features. Mojang have stated it is treating game development as a service; ensuring players always have the best possible gaming experience.
Capturing the core features and gameplay of the PC version in Beta, the highly anticipated Minecraft Android OS gaming app is focused on creativity and building, allowing players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D world. Optimized for Xperia™ PLAY, the app provides a truly immersive experience for players enabling them to navigate the game using the Xperia PLAY’s gamepad.

Check out this cute video of Minecraft characters building their own blocky Xperia Play. Minecraft is an Xperia Play exclusive for some time, will these exclusives and the recent Xperia Play price cuts give the little phone a kick in the right direction?
