July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

 The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Vita racing off to a busy 2015 in Japan

With the Vita having way more games coming out in Japan than any other format, expect a busy time of it in the Japanese media. Things get off to a decent start in the latest Famitsu with the new Atelier RPG getting a decent score. Sales will probably be helped by the neat limited edition.

Check out the release list for the major Vita games coming to Japan, but there are simply dozens of smaller, niche titles racing out to take advantage of the Vita's steady mature market. They probably won't dent the charts, but will all drip feed together to boost sales and interest in the Vita.

In related news, Sword Art Online's developers say Hollow Fragment is around 450K sales worldwide, with 70K sales in America. The anime was in the top five in Japan in 2014, so expect Lost Song, the spin-off being developed by ArtDink, to do even better. Expect a proper sequel to Hollow Fragment based on those numbers.
