July Update: PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development, discussed between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  July 2026 Update : Sony managed a cannon-fire sized self-inflicted injury by announcing the end of physical releases across the end of the PS5 era and the launch of the PS6. Hatsune Miku has sold 2.5 million copies in five years

Yep, five years ago today, the vocaloid popstrel first appeared on the PSP in Japan. And, in the eight games extending across various formats up the the latest 2nd F version on the Vita, she has sold an impressive 2.5 million games. With the Vita and PS3 versions now in the west, or heading west in the case of the latest 2nd F game, that number should only grow as Ms. Miku gains more fans over here (although a little marketing wouldn't help Sega).

There's going to be a big party in Japan at Tokyo Joyopolis, and expect plenty of extra content across the games. Will there be an announcement of a third major title? Guess we'll find out soon enough. No sales figures for individual games, but the PSP titles were around 400, 000 each and Vita titles should have easily sold 200,000+ by now.

Currently playing on my Vita/PS3/PS4/PS5
