PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Vita firmware update 3.15 arrives to support the PS4

The latest Vita firmware update does little if you don't have a PS4 to sit alongside it. Is this a big hint as to the Vita's future, in the west anyway? According to a PSN update, the new version includes:

PS4 Link Update for Remote Play: Linking your PS4 and PS Vita together will now be easier with the 3.15 update for PS Vita. It’ll enable Automatic Device Registration, which will automatically detect and pair both systems when they’re both online and the same user is signed in to both devices. This makes it even quicker for you to get started on Remote Play or access other second screen features.

The update also works on the VitaTV, adding some much needed PS4 functionality, as was promised in those early adverts. Plenty of Twitter users seem keen on this, perhaps that might help sales of the Japan-only dongle along? The PlayStation iOS app is also being updated.
