Hopefully we'll get plenty of out-of-nowhere games like this, but for now 2014 starts off with a decidedly quirky indie game out of Finland. The game is just a few quid and there's some more background on the PSN blog.

Minecraft Enhanced (unofficially) heads to the Vita

PG Team delivered the gorgeous GTA Revisited trilogy to the Vita and have been hard at work with a fresh version of Minecraft Enhanced. A first teaser is up showing off the better-looking version with improved shaders and visuals of the legendary joyous rock-cracking experience. Update : The Minecraft Enhanced mod went live in September, check out Chuck Zealous' video guide , with a neat comparison to the original version. Original : Yes, there are already plenty of Minecraft mods out there to improve the Vita experience, but this could add something a little extra and make using it somewhat easier! Check out some more before-and-after screens of their early efforts, but as with any homebrew effort, it will take time, and lawyers could jump in to derail things. This edition makes use of various Minecraft versions including the Bedrock Edition, effects from Minecraft: Java Edition and UI materials from Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Earth.

Steamworld Dig 2 hints and tips

Steamworld Dig 2 is another perfect slice of portable gaming. As you move through the terrific robotic adventure ( review ), you're more than likely to miss a few of the fascinating artefacts that are well hidden in each puzzle room, down among the lava beds and other locations across the game. While not exhaustive, here are the ones that caused me a fair bit of grief, along with some of the solutions to tougher puzzles and the location-based trophies. To speed up your artefact finding, focus on upgrading your lamp as the Eye for Weakness mod will light up secret entrances. Will add more if there's interest. Demon's Crib : Make your way to the top of the level, don't bother worrying about the acolytes or barrels, just get there. Use the Hook Shot to hang above the exit door, making sure you don't accidentally leave. The lava will come up, but not to the top, then flow back down. Miyoo Mini Plus review

While I love my Evercade very much, the slow drip feed of physical collections can lead me down a rabbit hole of "other games I want to play now." The Miyoo Mini Plus is the answer to that modest prayer with around 5,500 ROMs crammed into a tiny form factor, one that is easy to update and add your favourite classics. With four face buttons and four triggers tucked away across the back, the latest Miyoo Mini is a dinky device ideal for playing Game Boy, GBA, Neo Geo, Sega, WonderSwan, MAME arcade and PC Engine titles. Most games look crisp on the 3.5-inch, 640*480 screen, protected by a glass cover. It isn't perhaps as sparkling as on a hacked OLED Vita, but for the money ($65) it is great for bedtime or surreptitious office gaming. Underneath the translucent shell (other models available but all currently sold out ) is an easily removable 3,000 mAh battery with a claimed offering of around 5-6 hours of play time, which it seems to hit.
