The 64GB Vita memory card ready to rock Japan, and Sony's profits

Sony might not make any money on the new PS Vita 2000 model, but you can bet it is raking in the cash on those memory cards. The new super-size 64GB model goes on-sale with the new Vita next week and is already up on Amazon Japan. At 10,800 yen, (£67 or $110, still double the price of a high-end SD card) and with spot prices for 8Gbits of Flash at $4.34 (times by 8 to get 64GBytes and knock off Sony's discount as a massive RAM buyer), it likely costs Sony less than $40 to make these after packaging.

So, nearly $30 for every dinky card it sells. And the Japanese are rabid downloaders, so I'm guessing these will sell out pretty fast, rather like the 32GB card did after the price cut around the world. Still no word on when we'll get it, but I'm guessing it will be the essential Vita purchase in 2014 if Sony manages to snag some big third-party games for the 2000 and Vita TV launch.
