Vectrex Mini interview - David Oghia talks up the nostalgic vector powerhouse

Having been wowed by the news of the Vectrex Mini at Gamescom , I rushed off some questions to VectrexOn's main man  David Oghia . After a post-event, well earned, break, he's kindly given us a lot of detail about the project and some new images of the unit to share.  His story mirrors mine somewhat, Vectrex represents a glowing, unaffordable, obelisk of gaming power from our youth! But he's had the energy and drive to do something about it, and met the right people to get the job done!  What first got you interested in Vectrex and what spawned the idea of a Mini version? I’ve always been passionate about retro-gaming, but my first love was computers rather than consoles — the ZX81, then the Commodore 128. I only really discovered the console world in the late 90s, which is when I got my very first Vectrex. Of course, I had seen it in stores back in 1983, but at that time it was far too expensive for me.  Today, I own five Vectrex systems at home. Vector-based games ...

One in four Japanese Vita owners has Persona 4 Golden

Figures from Atlus' parent company in Japan suggest that 260,000 Japanese gamers have picked up Persona 4 Golden for the PS Vita, and with just over 1,000,000 consoles sold over there, that means it has a rather neat attach rate of 1-in-4. Hatsune Miku isn't far behind on 200,000+ sales.

If only a few more Vita games had that kind of magnetism, the console might be selling a bit better. You also wonder why Atlus US has spent so long in getting over to the American and Europe. How many Vita owners will have given up by the time the game finally arrives?

While comparisons aren't really appropriate, the likes of the original Halo had a 33% attach rate and Mario games are probably 50%+. Sony will be sorely disappointed by the sales of all of its big franchise games with only Uncharted selling any big numbers (around 750,000 worldwide, and still being promoted in the latest Vita adverts). The next highest Vita game is Gravity Daze with around 1-in-8, but that excludes digital sales.
