PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

Japan's software and hardware sales, we're gloomed, all gloomed!

Over Japan's Golden Week(s) holiday the Vita managed to sell just 23,000 units, with 10.5K last week as it started idling back down. With no new games out, although Sega's Samurai vs. Dragons is now up and running again, and got a decent Famitsu review, expect more grim news, and gloom and doom from pundits.

Whatever this week's number, it will be far short of Sony's target to hit 10 million sales this financial year, only a stellar E3 line-up and Heaven event (in Japan) will change that any time soon. Any news of the much-sought-after price cut will only likely come after E3, so don't get your hopes up.

A bright spot is due in mid-June with the release of Persona 4 with various sources reporting high levels of pre-orders.

On to the charts and numbers...

Hardware sales
3DS 46,425 down 50%
PS3 13,000 down 50%
PSP 12,247 down 40%
PS Vita 6,340 sales - ouch! But only down 40%
Wii 6,000 down 60%
