PlayStation 6 and PlayStation Portable future visions

The recent PlayStation video about the "simulated" technology in development between AMD and Sony engineers that will power the PlayStation 6 was interesting from a geek point of view. But from a gameplay perspective, there is - IMO - no need for a PlayStation 6 for another few years. Especially with the limp Xbox is-it-isn't-it launch .  April 2026 Update:  Compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games seems to be locked-in, as anything the PS6 full fat hardware the portable versions should be able to do as well, with near-invisible trade-offs at the silicon level.  Prices are firming up too with estimates around the PlayStation 6 handheld at between $500 to $700 and a PlayStation 6 at $700 to $1,000, depending on the deepening silicon crisis and Sony's budgeting wizards.  Only a few developers around the world could afford to take advantage of it for AAA+ budget games. Today's the Big One at GamesCom for Sony's Vita

Today we have EA's press event at 3PM UK, Sony's from 5PM UK. And I'll be adding all the Sony-handheld related news that explodes from Germany.

Just CLICK HERE for all the Sony event news, images and video!

Hopefully EA will discuss some formal Vita news rather than the tactless "handheld" tags next to Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed seen recently.

As for Sony, all they can say is when its out (my money is on February 2012) and announce some sh!t hot new games to keep any semblance of interest among the audience. As for the PSP, Sony has to drag it out somehow, so expect new bundles and perhaps cheaper games prices to keep up the recent rises in sales.

Tune in later for more.... the list below will link to stories as they publish

EA Announced a new FIFA Street Game, otherwise, it showed off its usual suspects line up of FIFA 12, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, SSX and Need for Speed. No word on any Vita releases, guess that's all being saved up for TGS next month. You can watch all the trailers in a rerun of the live event on EA's YouTube page. Should be going live soon.
