PSP2, Switch 2 and an Xbox handheld... a brighter portable future?

July Moved Pretty Fast, if You Blinked and Missed It, Here's What Happened

Blimey, July is toast, done and dusted. After the mayhem of E3 in June, its the more quiet month with only those spiky corporate quarterly figures from mobile/PC and games makers to spice up the action. Take a browse through all my stories on the likes of Google+, Apple, BlackBerry, iPlayer and DropBox, and more here.

In those results, all the big names did well, if you accept Nokia is taking a big-name break for a few months. Hopefully the Microsoft tie-up will see it come back strong, certainly liking the sound of the first Mango-powered phones.

In games land, the last batch of Japanese PSP games are ramping up for launch with swathes of screens and video. with Final Fantasy Type-0 looking the business and Grand Knights History proving unique titles still have a place among the franchises. Also, Vita games started creeping out of the woodwork with EA's quarterly release suggesting Need for Speed and Battlefield 3 heading its way.

The big news in July was the price drop of the 3DS which will put the Vita up against severe price competition at launch, should be an interesting battle with the announcement of the Vita's launch dates not that far off, due at GamesCon.
